Protect your Family from Germs

Some common diseases have become difficult to cure. ‘Drug resistant' is the reason often cited. Drug resistant doesn't mean that the human body has become resistant to the drug. It means the germs have become powerful enough to evade the power of medicine.

This powerful nature of the germs has made it difficult to treat a disease. Untreated germs spread and lead to a major outbreak. Infections are the largest known killers in the modern day.

In such a scenario it would be wise to focus on the solution rather than the problem. Inventing much more powerful drugs would harm the body more than the germs. So keeping the germs at bay is the next best option.

Keeping germs at bay

Keeping germs at bay was one of the first lessons taught to us. While on this topic it would be worthwhile to take a trip down memory lane.

Keeping hands clean

Touch is the single biggest factor for spreading infections.

Washing hands before preparing meals, before having food, after using the rest room, and immediately on reaching home from work are vital.

Washing hands properly is of utmost importance. Everyone washes his or her hands. But any hand not vigorously cleaned for more than 15 seconds is not hygienically cleaned.

Germs lodging between fingers, under fingernails and the back of the palm are mostly forgotten. Washing the whole hand under warm running water would relieve the germs along with the dust.

Keeping feet clean

A separate set of footwear should be used in the house. Walking around without changing the footwear is like carrying the germs to every nook and corner of the house. Making a good use of the doormat is another recommendation.

A germ free house

A weekly-vacuumed house is rid of dust and mite. A sunlit house with the morning sunlight streaming is enough to kill germs for the day. The house is now hygienically ready to reside.

The kitchen

Special care should be lavished on the kitchen. It's the focal point for good health of all the family members. A report speaks about some kitchens being less hygienic than the wash areas. The wash areas had been subject to antiseptic detergents where as the kitchens were just cleaned with soapy water.

The rest rooms

Rest rooms though cleaned with disinfectants have plenty of germs residing on their doorknobs. It is a matter of prime importance to wash hands after every visit to the rest room.

Babies and pets

Houses where babies' stay or pets play need extra care. Though the pets are clean certain areas must be off their bounds. Babies should be allowed to play with pets under watchful supervision.

Running nose of the baby should be cleaned with disposable paper tissues and usage of kerchiefs should be kept to the minimum or best avoided.

Keeping our areas sterile is quite necessary. By being clean we are not only safeguarding ourselves but we are also protecting our family against germs and possible ill health.
